Miguel I. Gómez is Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Economics and Management, Cornell University. He holds a BS in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes (Bogotá) and a PhD in Agricultural and Consumer Economics from the University of Illinois. Prior to joining Cornell, he was faculty member at the University of Illinois and research associate at Cornell.

The objective of his research and extension program is to enhance market opportunities for horticultural products, benefiting producers, food processors/distributors and consumers. Consequently, Miguel’s areas of expertise focus on marketing, price analysis and applied industrial organization. His current research focuses on the economics of locally produced specialty crops, contracts between food suppliers and supermarkets, customer satisfaction in food retailing, price analysis, and market power in food distribution channels. He is member of the Horticultural Business Management and Marketing Program (Hortmgt).

Miguel’s work has been published in such journals as the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Managerial and Decision Economics, Review of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics and Journal of Food Distribution Research, among others. He has academic and research experience in Latin America and Eastern Europe, and has served as consultant for various national and international, public and private organizations.
