Professor Knoblauch's extension and research interests are in the analysis of farm business performance, evaluation of sustainable agricultural practices and whole farm plans, management of large farms, farm machinery economics, and computer use in farm management.

His teaching program comprises two main efforts: he teaches the introductory Farm Business Management course and he leads the Farm Management Study Trip, which gives outstanding farm management students the opportunity to observe firsthand the farm production and management systems employed in other regions of the country. Recent trips have focused on agriculture in the Columbia Basin, San Joaquin Valley, Rio Grande Valley, Louisiana Delta, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Arizona.
