Basic Financial Management

A 3- or 4-day program designed to expose managers of agricultural business to financial statements and tracking business performance. Introduction of cash flow, income, balance, and change in owner equity statements and how they relate and are used by businesses is the focus of the program.

Registration Information
Workshop sizes range from 10-25 persons. Costs will include materials and speaker expenses, plus costs for location and meals. A fee of around $50 is suggested.

Audience
Any owner or manager of a small agricultural business that is interested in learning about the standard statements used to analyze an agricultural business.

Instructors
Wayne Knoblauch, professor of farm management; Jason Karszes, senior extension associate, PRO-DAIRY; farm management educators and specialists located around the state within Cornell Cooperative Extension; financial experts from lending institutions.

By Attending You Will
• Learn what the standard financial statements are
• Understand how financial statements are constructed
• Understand how financial statements relate to each other
• Use financial statements to analyze business performance

Teaching Format
Participative workshop with homework, each day’s session lasts 4-6 hours.

Advanced Financial Management top

A 3- or 4-day program designed to expose managers of agricultural business to advanced techniques associated with financial management of a small business. Budgeting, net present value, time value of money, debt structure, relationships between financial performance measures, and lease vs. buy are some of the topics covered. Designed to follow the Basic Financial Management course.

Registration
Workshop size ranges from 10-20 persons. Costs will include materials and speaker expenses, plus costs for location and meals. A fee of aournd $125 is suggested.

Audience
Any owner or manager of a small agricultural business that is interested in learning about specialized financial management skills and how they can be used within their business.
