Beginning January 1, 2010, the Department of Applied Economics and Management will offer 2 management minors and 3 applied economics minors to students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Each minor consists of at least 18 credit hours. Unless prior permission is obtained, there can be no substitutions for the courses required for each minor.

In addition to the 5 minors below, AEM also now offers a minor in business for engineering majors.

Applied Economics Minors

Environmental and Resource Economics

NOTE: Current CALS students who have either already completed AEM's Declaration to Minor form or who complete it by January 1, 2010, for a minor in finance, food industry management, or marketing, may continue to minor in those subject areas.

Admission Requirements top

Print the Requirements

1. Students must complete the Declaration to Minor form to be given preference for admission to AEM courses that are oversubscribed. Forms are available in 146 Warren Hall.

2. Submit the form any time after you have completed at least one of the courses required for the minor. Keep a copy of the form for reference. Note that to receive any consideration or priority in AEM course enrollment, a form must have been submitted prior to the semester in which enrollment is desired. Formally declaring an intent to minor in AEM does not guarantee that a student will be able to take a given AEM course in a given semester.

3. Plan a course of study to complete minor requirements.  Keeping track of courses required and completed toward the minor is the student’s responsibility; students will not be assigned an AEM advisor. Except as indicated, only AEM courses may be used to satisfy the requirements of the minor. (An exception may be made for transfer students from another university.)

4. Students must earn a grade of C- or better in each course required by the minor.

5. When submitting an application to graduate to the CALS Registrar during the senior year, in order to verify the completion of a Minor Program of Study, a copy of the transcript (it need not be an official copy) should be brought to 146 Warren Hall for verification that all required courses have been satisfactorily completed or are in the process of being completed.  Upon review of a satisfactory transcript, AEM's undergraduate program coordinator or the advising coordinator will verify on the application to graduate form that the requirements for the Minor Program of Study in Applied Economics and Management have been completed.

6. Questions should be addressed to Arla Hourigan, undergraduate program coordinator (146 Warren Hall); or Dale Grossman, AEM undergraduate advising coordinator.
