Undergraduate Business Program

Student Life in the Classroom

AEM 1101

All freshmen enroll in AEM 1101: Introduction to Applied Economics and Management during their first semester at Cornell. During this fun and informative one-credit course, you will get to know your fellow AEMers as well as learn how to get the most out of your Cornell experience.

Teaching Opportunities

Many juniors and seniors in the Undergraduate Business Program are hired as graders and teaching assistants in the large introductory courses. Students are either paid or they can earn credit by enrolling in AEM 4980: Supervised Teaching Experience.

These are highly prized positions. TAs and graders enjoy the camaraderie of their "teaching teams" and the one-on-one interaction with the professor teaching the course. They also gain invaluable experience in public speaking as well as working one-on-one with peers.

Research Opportunities top

Students can enrich their educational experience by conducting research on a wide variety of applied economics and business topics. Some hold paid research positions and others enroll in such courses as AEM 3800: Independent Honors Research in Social Science, AEM 4970: Individual Study in Applied Economics and Management, or AEM 4990: Undergraduate Research.

Funding opportunities for undergraduate research are available from both on- and off-campus sources. Students awarded scholarships by the Cornell Presidential Research Scholars program, for example, receive up to $10,000 to support their research activities.
